In July 2003, we set out on one our many road trips. We flew into Salt Lake City and spent July 4 with Julielyn's brother Evan, Tracy and Jenna in Provo. From Provo we drove out to Denver and met up with our great friend Gayland. We spent four nights in Denver and saw the Dead perform three of those four nights at the most beautiful ampitheatre in America, Red Rocks.
That's Gayland, A.J. and Julieyn in Red Rocks. From Denver we drove down to Moab and spent two days hiking around Arches National Park. That's us in front the most famous arch!
After Arches we made the spectacular drive to Bryce National Park. Bryce is probably one of the most mystical and magical places in the world. Anyone who has ever been there knows that pictures cannot begin to capture the beauty and wonder of Bryce. The Bryce ampitheatre is incredible and on July 11 we made the journey into the ampitheatre on foot. Above left is the ampitheatre and on the right is Julielyn at the start of our journey.
That's A.J. in front of the tree in Bryce's Wall Street. Wall Street is nestled in between the many hoodoos, the rock formations that make up Bryce. Wall Street began our decent out of the ampitheatre and lead to the rim trail. Above right is a view on the rim trail. It is also the exact spot that I stood at in my first trip to Bryce in 2001 and decided that if I ever propose to anyone, it would be here.
So after a quiet, nerve racked three hour plus hike through the ampitheatre and around the rim I stopped at that exact spot. We sat down on the rim (above left photo) and looked out over the ampitheatre. I had my portable CD player and we both listened to my all time favorite song, the Carpet Crawl (the Seconds Out version for those wondering). At the conclusion of the song, I pulled out the ring and asked Julielyn to marry me. The photo on the above right was taken right after I asked and the glasses hid our tears of joy.
